Last week, a Carrie and I from the Toronto Photography Meetup Group organized a photo scavenger hunt in the downtown core. Over 80 people came, cameras in hand, and in small groups they had to complete a list of challenges that included finding props, flipping hamburgers, squeezing into phone booths, jumping, and proposing to strangers on street corners. At the corner of University and King, I met "Tattoo". He had a lot to say. He served in Vietnam, has been homeless since 1972, and has over 300 tattoos (some of which he showed me). I pointed out the mass of steam coming from a nearby grate, and he told me that this grate was his home. We walked over to it, and he showed me the designs he'd carved in the concrete - an ongoing art project

This was a recovery experiment of sorts. I used a 16mm fisheye on my Pentax Super ME. I shot on Black's Branded 100 slide film (which is actually repackaged Fuji Sensia 100) and had it cross processed in C-41 chemicals. Then I scanned the (bright green!) slides in B&W negative mode, adjusted the levels, and ended up with this effect. Combinations of analog and digital darkroom play are fun!

Busy as a bee here, but not for long. Two days until public scrutiny (aka my photography opening). I spent 6 hours with Windex and double sided tape yesterday. Today was much of the same except I was tackling the boring and monotonous task of making my hangers with screws and wires. Almost done, almost done. I stopped by St.Lawrence market and found a vintage metal Kodak film cannister for $3. The seller toldme there might be a surprise inside. Opened it up and found some developed 35mm film inside. It's pretty old. Some of the film reads "Eastman" while other snippets read "Panatomic" and "Nitrate Film". These photos, however were on a very short section of black and white slide film that reads only

Today is 10/24 and I spent the rather gloomy and rainy day out and about, participating in the ten/twentyfour project. Photographers around the globe are taking photos today, which will eventually be compiled in the form of a huge collaborative exhibition. Spent a couple of hours hiking at Severn Falls yesterday. It's a little early, but some pretty lush colors are starting to come out. I LOVE THE FALL. Especially it's smell.I hope to get out again next week!
